Come with me while I visit the Calumet County Historical Society Museum in Chilton, Wisconsin—where black-and-white photos, and quirky local relics aren’t just dusty old stuff... they're storytellers. This hidden gem is nestled right off Highway 32/57 and it’s got everything you never knew you needed to see.
Step into two buildings loaded with real-deal Wisconsin history—from antique farm equipment and mid-century schoolhouse gear to charming 20th-century kitchen setups that’ll make you wonder how Grandma ever survived without a microwave. There's even an old-time general store setup, complete with goods that haven’t seen the light of day since FDR was in office.
Farming, cheese-making, faith, and community—this place ties it all together like a good Wisconsin potluck.
Open Sundays from 1 to 4 PM during the summer months (June–September). Admission? Free. That’s right—zero dollars. Though donations are always welcome to help keep the time machine humming.
Address: N3327 Irish Road, just south of Chilton on Hwy 32/57
Whether you're a history nerd, local explorer, road-tripper, or just looking for something to do on a lazy Sunday, this museum is worth a stop.

Sometimes it pays to be a more lucky than good. In January 2021, we stumbled on a social media post about Captain Hiram Gibbs, who lived in Forest Junction, written by Civil War author Stuart W. Sanders. It was first published at westerntheatercivilwar.com. Mr. Sanders is the chief research officer for the Kentucky Historical Society.
"These two murals display the rich cultural heritage of Calumet County. They are dense with both history and art. Each features real historical photos and events that are important to Chilton and Stockbridge history. "
